Exit 29 shops, dining and lodging

Exit 29 Region
The exit 29 area, 29 miles north of Florida and about 75 miles south of South Carolina is an affordable and convenient alternative to staying on Jekyll Island (11 miles away). This map is only 1 1/2 miles wide, so everything is close and accessible. The cheapest gas in the region is at the Goasis (BP) just west of I-95 and the Flying J plaza (Conoco) accross the street. We have had good reports from visitors about the Microtel Inn and Suites, as well as the new Comfort Inn. We don't know as much about the Super 8 or Econolodge but they appear to be clean and well maintained. New and notable this year is Zachry's Seafood and Steak House, recently re-located from Jekyll Island into a new and big building. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. In addtion to the regular bar, there is a sports bar on the screened porch, and a back open-air patio. There are several affordable diners in the neigborhood and the usual fast food, too. I like Larry's Giant Subs next to Harvey's market, too. The Georgia Pig is famous for it's authentic southern pit barbeque and it's worth a visit. The smoke, hickory logs and fire-pit are the real thing and the meats are cooked 8+ hours. They ship their sauce all over the world.
