The Scout was the successful evolution of the venerable Beamer TSR and featured a "cross-over" bar for faster turning.  A cross over bar improves turning speed by using a set of pulleys on the control bar to generate mechanical advantage and amplify brake inputs in the direction of the turn.  It worked well but complicated the bar set-up and rigging.  For 2010, HQ has re-engineered the the Scout and has cleverly put the cross-over rig up in the kite bridle, leaving the bar, simple, clean and easy to sort out.

The result for the new Scout II is a kite with improved performance and even faster turning.  The Beamer TSR and the Scout had always been a hit with snow-kite and kiteboarding schools and the new version will no doubt be popular as well.  A combination of good performance with predictable power and smooth stability makes it perfect for beginners yet brings the performance that advanced rider will appreciate.

HQ Kites brought the Scout II to JIBE 2010 (Jekyll Island Buggy Expo) and a lot of riders got to try it out.  The new Scout II is essentially a 3-line rig.  With the very clever cross-over rig up in the bridle, four lines down to the bar are not needed and this reduced drag compensates for any added weight and drag in the bridle.  Top quality construction with sewn bridle loops for neatness, reduced drag and fewer snags.  The safety leash has been improved with mechanical fasteners instead of stitching, resulting in a more reliable, long lasting rig for greater safety.

The Scout II is a lively kite with fast turning yet still stable and easy to fly.  Highly recommended!
