The Apex has always been a favorite for first-time de-power fliers and park-and-ride cruisers, while experienced riders appreciate the gust-munching stability that comes with such a wide wind range.  Built as a back-country snowkiting machine with updated sail and new de-power system that brings great lift and float time , the Apex is just at home on a land board, and the expanded de-power range gives the added control needed to stay securely seated in a kite buggy.

New this year is the 3.0 meter size, sure to be a hit with schools and those wanting a kite for crazy nukin' winds! Note the updated and sharp graphics as well.

Also new is the upgraded de-power bar, the same found on the Montana and Neo,   For those not familiar, the bar is nicely padded and has the below-the-bar secondary safety on the chicken loop, newly re-designed to be snow and sand-resistant.  The separate pull-pull safety straps for power and de-power trim are replaced by the single-line cam-cleat now popular on a lot of kites which features an extended strap to the center line that makes the trimmer easy to reach at all times. The bar comes with lines attached and connected to the kite, taking the term "ready to fly" to a new extreme.

If you have some time with larger fixed bridle foils around 5 meters or so in a variety of wind ranges, then stepping up to de-power is easy with the Apex.  Remember that de-power kites are larger than equivalent fixed bridle kites in terms of power output, so your first de-power kite will be huge compared to what you are used to.  Just start out in moderate conditions and any apprehension you have will quickly go away when you launch and see how easy it is to fly.  If you are new to being in motion on skis, on a land board or in a buggy, you will appreciate Apex's forgiving nature.  Power comes on smooth and easy and it won't race to the edge of the window before you know what to do.  Turns are smooth, easy and solid with no tip-tuck.  Remember that with any de-power kite, you need a harness (not included).

CWS Team riders Bobby Muse and son Wexler (HQ Team Rider) got the scoop on the new prototypes on a recent visit to North Carolina's Outer Banks.  They immediately noted the newly updated control gear hardware and new mixer in the bridle, and commented on the great smoothness and stability.   Wexler's comment after flying the prototype...
