Buster Soulfly Kite Completer, R2F, PKD
|
 |
PKD Kites is pleased to introduce the new BUSTER Soulfly series, which will replace the BUSTER III and the BROOZA III series. The BUSTER Soulfly is a complete new 4 line design for traction beginners and intermediate flyers. It can be flown with 4-line handles.
These are introductory prices for this new series and represent a bargain for full-featured high performance entry level kites. And the then "tribal" graphics of the Soulfly series are stunning. Gone from this Buster series are the bridle adjuster for angle-of-attack, a complexity that we always thought were too much for an entry-level kite anyway. And the kites are no longer pre-rigged, but that is fine too, as they can get tangled that way, and every new pilot will benefit from the experience of rigging the kite themselves. "For such low prices, what am I giving up?", you ask. The answer: Not much that matters for flying . The bag is simple and functional stuff-sack with carrying strap instead of a fancy backpack. Some say it's a little tight and this is true, but after your second or third outing, you will get the kite wrapped up tight the first time to slip in easily every time. The line set is all high visibility yellow; only the sleeved end loops are color coded for left and right. You will have to pick out which are the main lines (heavier) and which are the brakes. The line end-loops are knotted in place, not sewn. There is no crock-clips or tie-off for the bridles when not in use, but that will not matter after you rig the kite since the lines will stay connected and keep them sorted.
Another reason that they can keep the prices low is that they are on one of two kite companies (the other is Ozone) that operate their own factory, instead of sub-contracting the manufacturing to a Chinese kite factory (OK, there is also Revolution in the USA). PKD's factory in Sri-Lanka also builds paragliders, so the labor base is skilled with high QC controls.
The simple but functional handles have brake leaders that are color coded for right and left. The handles do not include the usual brake loops on the bottoms for staking the kite, but they do include two ground stakes for staking the handles at both the top power lines as well as the brake in order to adjust how it sits on the ground. This is a novel approach that makes sense since it lets you adjust for different wind conditions when parking your kite on the ground. The handles come with an integrated strop (a line running between the tops of both handles for hooking in to a harness), which we thought was odd, since a newbie should never "hook-in", but id does prevent the very common mistake of trying to steer with your arms too far apart. If the strop is a nuisance, you can cut it way, leaving 3" on either handle to add a conventional removable strop later on (if this does not make sense to you, no worries - call me and I will explain).
